Wrapping up

Dear Studio friends,

Here are a few things from earlier in 2025, as we head into wrapping up this year.

For a glimpse into the studio during the summer, here’s a video of the final assembly of the commissioned sculpture for National Gypsum in the studio before disassembly, transport, and installation: Building Stories Final Walk-Around

This commission marked National Gypsum's 100th anniversary and throughout 2025 they produced a series of internal videos featuring employees, plant and quarry locations, and the work that connects their national team. When I was brought in to build a sculpture celebrating both the centennial and the gypsum rock that is the foundation of their work, the Special Projects team screened several Centennial videos for me, giving me a sense of the company and how they were marking this milestone.

Once the sculpture was underway in my studio, National Gypsum shot some video footage of the process to use in one of their Centennial videos. This video was made specifically for National Gypsum's workforce as part of their internal communications—it references other employee videos and company information from their 2025 celebration. While it wasn't intended for external audiences, I thought it might interest you, as it offers a glimpse into the making of this piece.

The Department of Art and Art History at the University of North Carolina Asheville has published a catalog of their biennial outdoor sculpture exhibition “In the Round”. One of my sculptures from the Log series is part of this exhibition. The catalog includes the juror’s statement, statements by all seven artists, and images of the sculptures installed on the campus.

November’s Broken Boxes absorbed influences from a wide-ranging group of materials, times, and events. In the next few weeks, I’ll be choosing a small group from the series to travel with me to the Roswell Artist in Residence program.
